Day 2 (Actually Written on Day 2)
I'm watching the sunset as I write this. The catamarans in the nearby bay glow in the sunlight. I wish I was there, but this hotel is still pretty nice. There are some people playing in the basketball court on the other side of the road. I'm sitting on balcony #1. Balcony #1 has a nice glass table and an assortment of chairs, including some with nice cushions. However, it is noisier as it directly overlooks the road, and during the day it unfortunately somewhat smells of sewage. I normally sit in balcony #2, which is smaller but has a nicer-smelling breeze and a view of the houses on the mountain.
It's amazing how green this island is. Trees seem to pop up wherever they can, like weeds. I can identify palm trees and banana trees, but there are some that I'd never seen before. On the mountain near balcony #2, there's a tree whose branches look like giant soft pine needles. Kinda cool, also kinda wack.
I realized that yesterday's terrible mood was almost solely due to dehydration. I drank more water today and felt much less grumpy. Today was a good day to not be grumpy, because I spent a lot of it washing clothes. The way that I wash clothes here is using a scrubba, which is essentially a dry bag with ridges at the bottom, so it acts like a washboard. I found the scrubba while browsing on the Mountain Equipment Coop website, as one does. I used a special camping detergent (also from MEC) because that's what I found at home. When I first smelled the clothes after having washed them, they smelled of chlorine and I was worried because special camping detergents aren't usually supposed to have chlorine in them, but then I realized that the smell actually came from the water. Then I panicked again because I had been drinking this water, then I googled it and apparently a concentration of up to 4 milligrams of chlorine per litre of water is safe but you can notice the chlorine when it gets to just 1 milligram per litre, so I don't suppose I'll die yet.
(I haven't downloaded any video editing software yet so you need to turn the volume way up to hear anything.)
(I paused my writing to move inside because the sun finished setting and the neighbouring house's goat got into an aggressive verbal battle with a dog from across the street. Not sure if the two are correlated.)
That video is on balcony #2. I spent awhile sitting there looking at the view. My heat tolerance seems to have increased slightly, which is good news. Two things of note happened there: I saw the neighbour's goat for the first time, and I squished a mosquito on my leg and it splattered blood. I felt both gross and satisfying, as do many things in life.
Because the sun sets at 6, that's when I start getting sleepy. I don't like it. Give me back my normal circadian rhythm :( Ayt bye
That viewwwwww 🌴🌴🌴
