Day 4: Nothing of Note, but I Still Wrote

Today was Lettuce Shredding Day.

There are two types of vegetable in my fridge: cucumber and lettuce. There used to be baby carrots, but I ate the last of them at noon. It was a sad moment. My favourite type of lettuce is romaine lettuce. It's tasty, vitamin-rich, and has a nice green colour. My least favourite type of lettuce is iceberg lettuce. It's pale, waxy, tasteless, and has a vitamin content lower than my will to live during exam season. The type of lettuce that is in my fridge is iceberg lettuce. It is, however, better than no lettuce at all, and today I decided to shred it in preparation for tonight's dinner. As the only condiments that I have are tomato sauce and cooking oil, I will be eating the lettuce plain. My plain, shredded iceberg lettuce now awaits me in a repurposed container that once held ready-made IGA fried chicken. The times, they are a-changin'.

There were several lifestyle adaptations that I had to make to live here. The first was the heat. I died during the first day, but it got better and now the heat and I are on civil terms. The second was sleeping with earplugs every night because of the birds. I didn't like this very much, but then I found one of the loud birds and it has the cutest nest on the hotel wall with some babies, and now I will gladly wear earplugs whenever necessary. The third adaptation was doing yoga without a yoga mat. I don't have one because of limited packing space. I therefore do my yoga on tile. So far, I have banged my ankles, toes, knees, and hips on the tile. Furthermore, yoga, despite being slow, is a form of physical exercise, therefore and leads to perspiration, which causes my hands and feet to slip. Up to now, I have performed three somewhat painful impromptu splits. I might need to rethink my workout regimen.

Today's breeze smelled like flowers! I very much appreciated it. In other outdoor-related news, I saw that the other neighbouring house's chicken has three chicks! They're adorable. 10/10. Also, a second tanker ship came in today. The first tanker came in on Monday, but so far it hasn't approached the land and has been has instead decided to chill offshore for the past few days. As someone who has spent most of their life on land, I understand the sentiment. Almost all of my problems have occurred in a terrestrial setting. The tanker that arrived today, however, went directly towards the island. It went quite quickly as well. This tanker had things to do and places to be. I do not, but I'm hungry, so I'm going to get myself some food, probably accompanied by lettuce. See you tomorrow.

P.S. I would like to note that despite my grumbling about the lettuce, I still greatly appreciate the fact that I have some, and would like to again thank Flora for the food. May she get all the lettuce that her heart desires.

  1. Glad you are doing well :-)
We are finally starting to have some dam weather after our hot summer weather (90 degrees Fahrenheit!). One good thing about wonder in the Caribbean- no snow ! I agree about roosters. What compels them to cocadoodledoo at 3am?!? We experienced this on Hawaii also.
