Lazy Days at the Location Change
The ultimate reading nook is literally anywhere on an anchored boat.
TLDR: motored down to Le Phare Bleu, anchored there, read a bit, swam a bit, partied a bit.
I'm writing this from the marina restaurant, where they serve absolutely enormous glasses of margarita. We are currently anchored in a little bay just outside Le Phare Bleu marina, named after the docked lighthouse boat there. Astern of us is a beautiful trimaran, to port is a nice navy blue monohull, and to starboard is the Caribbean sea. The sunsets are amazing! There's a strong breeze which (finally) allows me to work out without melting, and the boat rocks you to sleep at night.
Most of yesterday was spent reading while Jem and Allan napped. Jem has a delightfully extensive book collection. I'm currently reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. It focuses on how scientists discovered how the world works, and is filled with wry anecdotes. Fun fact: Isaac Newton once took a long needle and rubbed it around between the back of his eye and his eye socket "just to see what would happen." There were apparently no ill side-effects. (I ask my slightly more deranged friends not to get any ideas.)
Yesterday morning, we got breakfast from a guy in a dinghy named Titus. Apparently there's another breakfast dinghy guy called Chiron. I wonder where all the classical names come from. Either way, it was very good. This morning we had eggs and toast. Jem adds herbes de Provence to his eggs. I will now be doing my eggs like that. Fun fact: Jem took a cordon bleu cooking class in France. Some more fun facts about Jem: he was a private detective after retiring from flying, his favourite game is backgammon, and he introduced me to an equivalent of "slow and steady wins the race": "slowly slowly catchy monkey."
It's been a stormy couple of days. The first thing to do on a boat when you see rain coming is to close all the hatches. I learned this when I came down to a soaked cabin floor. On the plus side, rain cools the air somewhat and provides a nice shower. Other ways of getting clean are using the boat shower, or taking an ocean bath, which is quite refreshing, but the outdoor freshwater shower only lasts 10 seconds so there's still salt in my hair.
Flora's party quite fun. It was on the lighthouse boat and was Peter Pan-themed, so we bought some pirate-like gear and showed up in costumes. Party attendees included three people with cardboard crocodile heads, a lady wrapped in gold glitter tulle (fairy dust), and a slightly portly man in a very revealing Tinkerbell costume. I will not include a picture. Instead, here's what the view looks like when it's not raining.
Monday we go back to Port Louis to restock, then Tuesday morning we head up to Carriacou, one of the two northern Grenadian islands. My wifi is very sparse so I don't have much access to social media. Please send memes. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for sharing your adventures and fun observations. We are adding the Caribbean to the list of places we would like to visit.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are enjoying and learning a lot. Jenny
